Thank you for your thoughtful response.

I interpret the statement that the "dead are conscious of nothing" to mean that their physical bodies are no longer aware, that the physical brain has died.  I don't believe that my experiences were just versions of memories of my family members - the experiences were too unique.  The spirit continues and is alive and conscious on a non-physical dimension.

As far as subduing the Earth - well, humans may have been given Paradise but we have not been the best stewards, unfortunately.  We must learn to respect Creation again, lest we destroy our planet, God's gift.

If Jesus was the physical incarnation of the Creator, and experienced human life and died a physical death to bring us into Grace, then our lives must have some value and our lifetimes surely aren't mean to dissolve at the moment of physical death.

Louise,

I completely understand your state of confusion as to why God allows us to suffer, and maybe this feels like mankind wasn't supposed to be here at all. Genesis 1:28 tells us that God's purpose for mankind was to fill the earth and subdue it. Humans were created to live FOREVER on a paradise earth, but our sinful parents, Adam and Eve, messed that up for us. So now we are susceptible to pain, suffering, and death.

Since God loved us humans so much and wanted that original purpose back, he sent his son Jesus Christ to die for us so that we can live forever. Job 34:10 says "Far be it from the true God to act wickedly, and the Almighty to act unjustly!”

Like I stated earlier, the dead are conscious of nothing, so it was most likely a vivid memory that you had of your dad. My condolences are with your family, and I do know what it's like to lose someone in death so suddenly. I hope I helped.

Louise - I certainly agree with you.  I too don't believe the Christ came to earth to live like us and die like us just to make us non-existant when we die.  I feel like our loved ones souls go on and send us messages and watch over us.

There are many philosophies and interpretations of what happens to living beings when they leave physical existence, when they "die".  Some say that death is God's other door, that conscious just changes but continues.  Some say that the individual falls into a deep dreamless sleep, awaiting resurrection on another dimension.  Another belief is that of a life review and a processing, akin to a purgatory of sorts, and thereafter a continued evolving ascension towards God or another lifetime.  Some await a literal resurrection of the dead.  I don't know exactly what the plan is.

Why did Christ say to the thief crucified next to him, "Today you will be with me in Paradise (sic)", if there is no survival of physical death?  If we are to disappear, then whatever we have done, are doing now, or will do or think doesn't exist or matter.

I miss my deceased loved ones and the good things in our lives together terribly.  It may be wishful thinking to feel their presence around me, but what am I here to learn if it isn't love?  And what is the lesson if I can't take it with me?

Agreed.  You put it so good.
